Standout Moment(s):
Progressive metal newcomers The Mourning made their debut appearance on the metal seas during the 2025 edition. Notably, it also marked the first time the band’s current lineup performed together in person, featuring Johnny Ray (vocals), Zai Alyenora (vocals), Jason Berlin (drums), Francesco Pinter (guitar), and, no stranger to 70000tons, Alex Nasla (In Virtue, ex-Witherfall) on keyboards. Despite a tight scheduling conflict, we managed to squeeze in for their first set, and those who caught it couldn’t stop talking about it afterward. The immediate chemistry between Ray and Alyenora was striking, with their vocals intertwining in a way that clearly resonated with the crowd. As a collective, The Mourning left a strong first impression, offering something distinctly their own, and hopefully, this won’t be their last time aboard.

Latest The Mourning News
While some members may likely be involved in other projects, The Mourning have remained relatively quiet on social media since April 2025. As 2026 continues to unfold, an update may still be on the horizon, but for now, there has been little news following their notable appearance at 70000tons.
What is the Artist Spotlight?
Well, it’s more than a review of their performance; as 70000tons goes, each band is a headliner, and we treat each one as such, giving them their own spread, discussing who they are and what they’ve been up to since the cruise. Each spotlight coincides with any updates from 70000tons organizers (if any), leading to days before setting sail. An extensive coverage like no other.
