Standout Moment(s):
Regardless of the chapter or era, Brazilian thrash and groove metal legends Sepultura are approaching the end of an era after more than 40 years. The band spent 2025 and continuing through 2026 on an extensive global farewell tour, giving fans one final chance to celebrate their legacy. One of those stops took place at sea during 70000tons, fittingly dubbed Farewell at Sea. We were physically present for both performances, though it was the first set we fully covered. Unsurprisingly, press coverage was heavy across both shows, limiting movement and access throughout much of the performance. Even so, we managed to work our way through the crowd to document Sepultura’s final moments on the metal seas. The experience was bittersweet. We were also there for the band’s first-ever appearance on the cruise just seven years prior, and the contrast between then and now was striking. The Royal Theater was completely packed, wall-to-wall with fans, barely any room to move. The same energy carried over to the Pool Deck, where it felt like everyone on the boat turned out to pay their respects. Performance-wise, the band delivered exactly what you’d hope for. Derrick Green was all smiles and energy, Andreas Kisser was relentless, and the rest of the band matched the moment. New drummer Greyson Nekrutman took on material written long before his time and played it with confidence and respect, as if he’d been part of the story all along. The energy never dipped, and it was a masterful final send-off at sea.

What is the Artist Spotlight?
Well, it’s more than a review of their performance; as 70000tons goes, each band is a headliner, and we treat each one as such, giving them their own spread, discussing who they are and what they’ve been up to since the cruise. Each spotlight coincides with any updates from 70000tons organizers (if any), leading to days before setting sail. An extensive coverage like no other.
