Standout Moment(s):
UK thrash legends Onslaught may have made their third appearance on the cruise, but it was the first for their then-vocalist, David Garnett. Garnett joined Onslaught in 2020 after frontman Sy Keeler stepped down. While the band was celebrating two classic albums, the 40th anniversary of their 1985 debut Power From Hell, and 39 years of their sophomore record The Force, Garnett held everything together with an immense amount of energy. The show also marked the return of guitarist Nige Rockett to the stage.
Due to typical scheduling conflicts, we sadly missed their second set, but we made it to their first, an honor in itself, as they opened the Studio B Ice Rink Theater for the cruise kickoff when the boat left the Miami shores. While it was a different experience seeing Garnett behind the microphone, the overall energy and intensity remained. With punk-infused tension mixed with good old thrash, it was a great way to launch four days of nonstop metal.

Latest Onslaught News
Quite a bit has changed for Onslaught since their performance on the cruise. By May, the band released their new album Origins of Aggression, which became the second and final record with vocalist David Garnett. In August, they announced the return of their legendary vocalist, Sy Keeler, leading into their first Australian tour that November. It’s been a year of major shifts, and thankfully, the transition between Garnett’s departure and Sy’s return appeared amicable. There’s no sign of slowing down, as the group will kick off a European tour as early as January. Dates and tickets are available at this location.
What is the Artist Spotlight?
Well, it’s more than a review of their performance; as 70000tons goes, each band is a headliner, and we treat each one as such, giving them their own spread, discussing who they are and what they’ve been up to since the cruise. Each spotlight coincides with any updates from 70000tons organizers (if any), leading to days before setting sail. An extensive coverage like no other.
