It’s been quite a week in metal. First of all, as the weekend snuck up on us, we found out that just how long Tim Lambesis would be going to jail. That’s a big one. It’s been about a year since the As I Lay Dying frontman was arrested for attempting to hire a hitman to kill his wife. And while the rest of the band are moving on with their own project, the only place Lambesis is moving on to is a cell for the next six years. Here’s some of the other stuff that happened this week:
- We premiered Metasatoll’s “Lööme Mesti,” and interviewed the band’s Lauri Ounapuu. Looking for a fix of Estonian folk metal? We’ve got you covered.
- When is a Slayer song better? When it’s covered on a ukelele with ukelele solos. We didn’t think there was a way to make the instrument badass, and there might not be, but this is a good start.
- What bands got heavier as they went on instead of selling out? We have a few ideas in our Top 5 list, including Judas Priest and Pantera. Speaking of Judas Priest, have you seen the artwork for Redeemer of Souls yet? It’s pretty epic. You can also hear some new music from a forthcoming single.
- Mötley Crüe unveiled the lineup of the country tribute coming out. It pretty much convinced us that country stars have bad taste in Mötley Crüe songs. In other Crüe news, the band are releasing another greatest hits album.
- When Cynic’s Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert came out last week, the metal community embraced them. Well, except for the owner of guitar company Vik Guitars. That didn’t sit well with Periphery and Scar Symmetry, who pretty much condemned him. Exivious even wrote a song about him.
