05) Mastodon

It’s going on three years since 2017’s Emperor of Sand and rumors have been circulating social media that Mastodon’s new album will arrive sometime in 2020. During the summer, drummer Brann Dailor said in an interview that there’s a lot of material for their next album.

04) Lamb of God

Two questions:

01) What will Lamb of God sound like without drummer Chris Adler?

02) Does their teaser clip truly mean a new album is on its way for 2020?

03) Gojira

We’ve seen a handful of possible studio updates from Gojira. Will 2020 be the year we hear a follow up from 2016’s Magma? These French metal masters have landed on #1 and #6 on our Top albums of the decade. It’s safe to say, the group can do no wrong, and we already predict seeing their new album on our year-end list.

02) Megadeth

Similar to Ozzy Osbourne, 2019 wasn’t an easy run for Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine. The frontman/guitarist was diagnosed with throat cancer, and by October, we heard he had completed the treatment for it. In between Mustaine’s recovery, there have been studio updates. The latest we heard was last month when the band revealed they will release new music before their European tour with Five Finger Death Punch. This means we will listen to something new from the group on any given day.

01) Ne Obliviscaris

We knew Ne Obliviscaris were itching to work on new music when we spoke to them last year during 70000tons of metal. And now, instead of wishing Happy New Year, Ne Obliviscaris thanked their fans for the support over the last decade with the following comment via Instagram:

“Thank you one and all for the amazing support over the last year and decade. 3 albums down and another one in 2020, we can’t wait to tour the world on that release!”

It’s fun to point out that all three full-length albums have made it to our decade-end list. Therefore, it’s obvious we’re excited to see what record #4 will sound like.
