According to a Facebook update from former bandmate “Fast” Eddie Clarke, former Motörhead drummer Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor has passed away at the age of 61.

Said Clarke of his fallen brother via Facebook:

“My dear friend and brother passed away last night.
He had been ill for sometime but that does not make it any easier when the time finally comes. I have known Phil since he was 21 and he was one hell of a character. Fortunately we made some fantastic music together and I have many many fond memories of our time together. Rest in Peace, Phil!”

Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor started playing with Motörhead way back in 1975, playing on eight studio albums. He last appeared on the song “I Ain’t No Nice Guy,” from Motörhead’s 1992 album March ör Die.

“Now and then,” said Lemmy Kilmister in 2011 interview when asked if he still talks with his former drummer, “I like Phil, he was my best mate.”
