Behemoth are currently on the road with Slipknot, Volbeat and Gojira for the Knotfest Roadshow tour. Sometime between the group’s shows on August 12th at DTE Energy Music Theatre, Clarkston, MI and last night’s performance at Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater at Virginia Beach, Virginia Beach, VA, frontman Nergal ended up getting kicked out of a gym. Of course, everyone could use a little exercise while sitting on a tour bus. However, no one messes with Nergal when it’s time for his workout regime. Sometime during the group’s break between shows, members of Behemoth decided to find a nearby gym. Metal Injection reports, the location was at a local YMCA but unsure exactly which town it’s located in.

Apparently, Nergal wasn’t allowed inside the gym because he was wearing a Darkthrone shirt and he informed someone that he didn’t believe in Jesus. It’s unfortunate what’s happening as the United States is known for being diverse, despite Christianity being at 70% of the population. We’re not sure if we can think of anyone we know who has been kicked out of a gym before due to wearing a metal shirt. This reminds us of the recent story when the band Torn the Fuck Apart got stopped by police at a Walmart after callers spotted a dark van with “suspicious characters.’

And for Nergal, maybe he just has bad luck as he mentioned the following:

“Jesus! This means war mate!💪🤛🖕U can ask your buddies to censor my art, u can ask your disciples to bring me to courts, u can ask your sons to boycott Behemoth’s shows… but u can’t FUCK with my work out routine!”

Darkthrone noticed what happened and shared their thoughts via Instagram:

So @nergal69 was kicked out of a gym in the states where @behemoth are currently on tour yesterday because he was wearing a Darkthrone shirt and they asked him if he believed in Jesus Christ.

I didn’t know if I should laugh or cry when I heard about it.

The fun thing for me about all this is that the shirt he was wearing was an old original #Darkthrone shirt that I gave him about a year ago.

Have any of you had any similar problem wearing a Darkthrone shirt?”

Our advice for Nergal, if this happens again would be: All he has to do is mention his book Confessions Of A Heretic: The Sacred And The Profane: Behemoth And Beyond is still labeled in the “Religion and Spirituality” category on Amazon. Or perhaps he should just call it a day and wear Cradle of Filth’s “controversial” shirt
