If there’s one thing we’ve learned throughout the years, it’s pretty much to never say never. In the next few months, records will come out from Refused and Faith No More after 17 and 18 years, respectively. They follow At the Gates, Carcass and Godflesh, all of whom got back together in the last couple of years after long periods of inactivity. Yet for every reunion that comes to fruition (and actually put out good albums, like the aforementioned), there are plenty of bands that will probably never get back together. At least not in the same or original incarnation that they initially were. Be it clashing egos, irreplaceable deaths or financial reasons, there are some bands we’d be extremely surprised to see reuniting:
In six years, Acid Bath birthed the New Orleans sludge sound. Their debut album, 1994’s When the Kite String Pops, put them on the map buoyed by Dax Riggs’ vocals and guitarist Sammy Duet’s riffs. Sadly, the band came to an abrupt end when bassist Audie Pitre was killed in a drunk driving accident in 1997. Since then, Duet has joined Goatwhore and Riggs has gone on to a successful solo career. Last year, drummer Jimmy Kyle apparently reached out to Corey Taylor about joining Acid Bath, but Duet quickly put those rumors to rest, stating “There is no Acid Bath without Audie Pitre, so there will never be ‘new Acid Bath material.”
