Rumors have been running rampant this week about Axl Rose fronting AC/DC on their upcoming rescheduled tour. Well, it looks like we’ll find out if the rumors are true as soon as this weekend, as AC/DC have been tapped to perform at an unusual place: WrestleMania.
It’s been announced that AC/DC will be performing at WrestleMania 32, being held this Sunday (April 3) in Dallas, TX. Angus Young and crew will reportedly perform as part of wrestler Triple H’s entrance into his championship match against Roman Reigns. “My love for hard rock and metal has been well documented,” declared Triple H in a statement about AC/DC’s addition to WrestleMania. “To have one of the greatest bands of all time perform as I walk into the ring, during WrestleMania nonetheless, is an unbelievable honor.”
It remains unclear what song specifically AC/DC will play during Triple H’s entrance, as well as if they’ll be playing multiple songs during the night. The announcement also fails to mention who will actually be on the mic during AC/DC’s performance, though notes that the night will mark “a new chapter” for the rock legends. That leaves many to believe that this will indeed mark AC/DC’s first performance with Brian Johnson’s “fill-in”, especially given the recent rumors surrounding Axl Rose and that it seems hard to believe Johnson would be fully ready to rejoin the band onstage (unless you believe half of what Jim Breuer says). Then again, Rose’s involvement might not be as likely given recent developments with his other band.
As massive as this is, AC/DC are far from the first hard rock band to perform on professional wrestling’s biggest night. In fact, Triple H (whose rock fandom lead to becoming friends with the late Lemmy Kilmister and Tool’s Adam Jones) even had Motorhead perform during his entrance at past WrestleManias, and even once used Metallica’s “For Whom The Bell Tolls” during an infamous WrestleMania bout with The Undertaker. That’s not even mentioning WrestleMania appearances from Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper, Limp Bizkit… and a TON of others (seeing Living Color at WrestleMania back in 2013 was odd yet also awesome!).
WrestleMania 32 airs live on Sunday, April 3 at 7pm ET/4pm PT via pay-per-view and the WWE Network. A video teaser of AC/DC’s WrestleMania appearance can be seen here online.
UPDATE: WWE has released a new teaser of AC/DC’s appearance at WrestleMania:
…Ok, so hopefully by now you realize this isn’t a real story… Happy April Fool’s!
