Gojira are more or less officially the first heavy metal band to ever perform at the Olympics. These French metal giants are set to make history at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, taking place today (26th). Alongside Céline Dion, Lady Gaga, and Aya Nakamura, Gojira will highlight the event with a unique collaboration with opera singer Marina Viotti.
Additionally, the ceremony marks Dion’s first performance in years after her diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome, which forced her to cancel several shows. Other performances include pianist Sofiane Pamart with singer Juliette Armanet, and a set featuring Philippe Katerine and Cerrone.
Gojira are now part of a rare list of rock acts that have performed at the Olympics, including KISS, The Who, Queen, Muse, and Paul McCartney.
The Paris Olympics opening ceremony starts today (26th) at 7:30pm CET, taking place along the River Seine for the first time in the Games’ history.
