The event featured a musical handover for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with performances staged at Venice Beach. The Red Hot Chili Peppers performed their 2003 hit track “Can’t Stop” in front of a large LA28 sign. Actor Tom Cruise also made an appearance, performing a skydiving stunt at Stade de France before accepting the Olympic flag from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and gymnast Simone Biles. The Los Angeles Olympics are set to take place from July 14 to July 30, 2028. Gojira marked the first metal band to perform for the Olympics at the Paris Opening Ceremony on July 26th.
