As if releasing one of the standout albums of 2016 wasn’t enough, Gojira ended their monthlong tour with TesseracT last night at Terminal 5. For the band to have gone from being the support to Mastodon two years ago at the 3,000-capacity theater to headlining a near-sold out show there two years later speaks to the strength of their following and their increased profile since Magma was released earlier this year.
Following opening sets from Car Bob and TesseracT, Gojira’s 17-song set was every bit as tight as you’d expect from the quartet, and since the Duplantier brothers moved from France to Brooklyn, this was as close as you could get to this being a hometown show for them. Metal Insider contributing photographer Melinda Oswandel was at the show, and got some shots for us.
