For roughly two years, we knew Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton and Chester Bennington were working on a collaboration. Unfortunately, any additional collaborations or projects were cut short after the late Linkin Park singer took his own life back in July 2017. On March 1st, 2019, Morton’s debut solo album Anesthetic will be released via WPP Records and Spinefarm Records and it will feature the song he worked on with Bennington. Today (8th), the Morton and Bennington collaborative effort, “Cross Off,” has finally arrived. The song premiered earlier today via Zane Lowe’s World Record on Beats 1.
The track was recorded back in April 2017 and written by Morton, Bennington, Jake Oni and producer Josh Wilbur. The composition began with Morton, WIlbur and Oni before the three asked Bennington about singing vocals. Bennington loved the piece and agreed to working on it as he added his own ideas and lyrics.
Morton reflected on the experience:
“Was a very free flowing and natural process. We both really loved the song from its inception and everyone that worked on it put a lot of energy and emotion into it. I feel like you can really hear that in the track, and absolutely in Chester’s performance.”
