dream-theater-the-astonishing-650Dream Theater is going to be playing their new double album The Astonishing in its entirety while on tour. That means that there’s likely going to be a lot of images from the artwork and concept of the new album when they play. And in their just-unveiled video for “The Gift of Music,” which premiered on Rolling Stone, you see plenty of that, along with shots of the band playing in a studio. John Petrucci says that they found a magical place to shoot the studio footage – New Jersey:

“It was great working with director Wes Teshome on our latest video for ‘The Gift of Music,'” guitarist John Petrucci comments. “While we were looking to keep the emphasis on performance, we wanted to be sure that the vibe was unique and special so we found a really interesting location to film in New Jersey that had the perfect atmosphere. By blending in some digital animation we were also able to covey some of the concept from The Astonishing as well. We think it demonstrates the perfect balance of story and performance.”

The Astonishing is one of the better-reviewed albums in the the band’s catalog, and it’ll be interesting to see if the band’s sales match the album reviews.
