While DevilDriver are about to wrap up their tour with Death Angel, Winds of Plague, and the Agonist, it seems a new album is on its way. According to frontman Dez Fafara’s Instagram, he revealed an outlaw country cover record will be the band’s next release. Dez promised the new album will include:
“13 insanely heavy, swinging badass Outlaw tracks by some of the best Outlaw country artists!”
It isn’t the first time hearing about this since Dez hinted a country cover album late last year and now we are aware the process started. It is produced by Steve Evetts (Dillinger Escape Plan, Symphony X, Sepultura, etc.) and includes over 15 guest appearances such as John Carter Cash, Lamb of God’s Mark Morton and more. The album will honor country artists including Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, George Jones, Hank Williams III, Hank Williams Jr, Steve Earle and more.
Dez made it “fucking clear” that DevilDriver are the first to make a cover album like this and they have been working on it for a year. It’d also line up with the Spotify playlist he shares with us that included tracks by David Allan Coe, Hank Williams and Johnny Cash.
We enjoyed hearing covers of Prince/Sinead O’Connor, Britney Spears, Simon and Garfunkel and more, making us aware that this can be a successful release.
