This Saturday, March 31, That Metal Show kicks off its tenth season on VH1 Classic. Featuring appearances from members of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Disturbed, Motörhead, Pantera, Machine Head and many others, we thought it would be nice to have co-host Don Jamieson once again give us a preview of a few episodes.
My sideburns and I are so excited for the premiere of the new season this Saturday, March 31, that we decided to give you a little preview:
3/31: Lars Ulrich makes his return to our show. Love him or hate him, the guy is a true metalhead and really has a great sense of humor about himself. He tries valiantly to defend Lulu (to no avail) and talks about Metallica’s Orion Festival, where they’ll be playing Ride The Lightning in its entirety one night and Metallica (aka “The Black Album”) the next night. Also, Robb Flynn from Machine Head stops by and talks about their awesome new disc and confesses to being a skull biter. We also debut guest drummers on the show and who better to lead off with than Mike Portnoy.
4/7: Alice Cooper also makes his return and as always is the consummate gentleman and storyteller, including one about meeting Elvis and almost shooting him. Great White’s Jack Russell also stops by and breaks down the dueling Great White controversy. Scott Ian stops by to do the “Top 5 Guitar Duos” with us and Brian Tichy plays the drums AND speedbag.
4/14: The new group T&N featuring George Lynch, Jeff Pilson and Mick Brown stop by the show and mayhem ensues. Let’s just say they’re rockin’ like 3/4 of Dokken. Slash stops by to debate the “Top 5 Title Tracks” with us and Brian Tichy beats the skins again.
4/21: After 9 seasons, we FINALLY have a current member of Iron Maiden on the show – Adrian Smith. It’s an entire Maiden-packed hour complete with a Maiden “TMS Top 5,” Maiden “What Ever Happened To?” and Maiden “Throwdown.” The great Michael Schenker plays guitar and Eddie squirts out the clear stuff in his underwear.
4/28: A regular on the Sunset Strip and now a regular on our show, Lemmy Kilmister returns to hang with us and drink booze. Lemmy talks Motörhead, chasing tail and reveals the whereabouts of their most famous stage prop “The Bomber.” Jerry Dixon and Robert Mason from Warrant stop by and we discuss the band’s past, present and future and get their thoughts on the passing of Jani Lane. Eddie blows an entire row of gaskets during a classic “Stump The Trunk,” and Michael Schenker once again shreds for us.
5/5: After soloing for us in some previous shows, the Mad Axeman sits down with us as a guest and I’m happy to report that he’s clean, sober, healthy and happy. Eddie acts like a giddy 14 yr-old as Michael share stories from UFO, the Scorpions and MSG. Tesla’s Frank Hannon has all the pressure in the world on him when he has to play guitar in Michael’s presence and Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready comes by to worship at the altar of Schenker as well.
5/12: Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy from The Cult sit in with us. I gotta say, I am a huge fan of their last couple of albums including the new one Choice Of Weapon. So it was cool to hang and chat with them. Doro Pesch also joins us – what a little metal sweetheart. Still sexy and rockin’ in 2102. Tom Morello stops by to debate the “Top 5 Sabbath Riffs” and Frank Hannon plays his Les Paul mightly.
5/19: Vinnie Paul from Pantera/Hellyeah comes by and we find out that Vinnie is actually a huge Styx fan. Good thing, since Tommy Shaw and James “JY” Young also stop by, which makes for a really cool and diverse show. Steve Stevens absolutely kills it on guitar. One of my faves so far.
That’s it for now. Appreciate Metal Insider and all you metal heads for watching and supporting. We are officially the longest running show in VH1 history. Thank God, cuz I can’t imagine coming in second to fucking Basketball Wives. For more info please check donjamieson.com or follow me on Twitter: @realdonjamieson.
