Anders Odden (Satyricon/Cadaver) has revealed he was diagnosed with colon cancer on October 3, 2019. Odden wanted to hold off on the announcement until after his surgery, which is scheduled for Monday (6th). However, everything changed after he received a video message from Hank Von Hell (ex-Turbonegro) and Mikkey Dee (Motörhead).
Odden shared the following details via Instagram:
“I wanted to wait to tell you all about my condition until my surgery was done, but then I got this video clip. On my musical hero Lemmy’s, death date (28.12.2015) my friend Hank Von Hell is in Sweden raising money for the cancer cause with Motorhead drummer Mikkey Dee. Getting this video was very touching and made me wanna share it with you to raise money for cancer research.
I was diagnosed with colon cancer the 3rd of October 2019. Since then I have done chemotherapy to shrink the tumor down so I can undergo surgery.
The surgery date is set to the 6th of January 2020. The doctors have told me that everything will go as planed and that I will get rid of this cancer. It’s a tough journey, but I am ready. Have a happy new year and I will see you when I am through.”
While reflecting on the new year in a second post, he adds:
“It’s been a weird year – recorded a new fantastic @cadavertheband album with my new wingman, @dirkverbeuren. Ruled the metal festivals of the world with @satyriconofficial – Made my live comeback with Cadaver at @hellbotn_metalfest – then toured Norway with @haape and the legendary @tonyharnell – then, My life turned upside down the 3rd of October getting diagnosed with colon cancer- BUT – i am allready on the road to getting back- Surgery and recovery, then back out with new music and gigs! Thanks to all of you who have supported me this year – love you all – happy new year!”
