The saga of former White Zombie/Last Crack drummer Phil Buerstatte might have drawn to a close last week with his unfortunate death. However, the death of Buerstatte, who played in the band from 1992-1994, has brought a strange coda, as a man that had been impersonating him to get free stays in rehab has been arrested and is going to jail. Loren Breckenridge had booked himself into two different rehabs under the name Phil Buerstatte, passing checks for $75,000 that were later determined to have insufficient funds.
After those incidents, which took place last August, Breckenridge missed several court appearances, leading a Marin County CA judge to issue a warrant for his arrest, the Marin Independent Journal says. He was arrested in December in San Clemente at another rehab facility after trying to pass himself off as actor Loren Jovicic. Breckenridge was sentenced to three years and four months, but he’ll only be in jail for 16 months, with the rest being served as “mandatory supervision” by the probation department. From the look of the above picture, which shows Breckenridge and Buerstatte from left, Breckenridge looks a lot more like Rob Halford than anyone else he’s trying to impersonate.
