The first track from the new Exodus album is out, “Salt The Wound,”  featuring a guest solo by founding guitarist Kirk Hammett! This is also our first listen to Steve “Zetro” Souza since 2004s Tempo of the Damned.

Hammett talked about recording this song with Rolling Stone back in July.

“I play a pretty cool solo, and then Gary comes in and plays another solo, and you know what?” Hammett asks. “I listened to that and thought, ‘Wow, it’s 1982 all over again and here we are, Gary and I are trying to cut each other’s heads off with our guitar solos.’ Nothing has changed much in the last 30 years. I love it. I love those guys. I’ve only known them for most of my life, so I’m really happy that I finally got to record with them.”

Other than an early Exodus demo, this is Kirk Hammett’s only official recording with his former band. He left the band in 1983 to join Metallica, replacing the fired Dave Mustaine. Frontman Souza was in Exodus from 1986 to 1993 and again from 2002 to 2004, before reuniting with the band for a third time back in June of this year, replacing Rob Dukes.

The new album,  Blood In, Blood Out comes out October 13th.
