Maynard James Keenan has become infamous for keeping his mouth shut about the status of Tool’s long-awaited new album. So while it’s great that Keenan discussed the album with Chile’s Radio Futuro, fans will not be happy with what he had to say.

When asked by Radio Futuro about the possibility of Tool releasing a new album soon, Keenan reportedly replied “No new disc. Not this year.” When further pressed about any plans to release new music, the Tool frontman stated “I have not written any songs. So no, there is nothing.” Keenan also revealed that there are no immediate plans for A Perfect Circle to record a new album either.

Granted, there’s a possibility that something may have been lost in translation. In truth, though, that’s partially us in denial about Tool’s new album not coming out this year. Granted, we know that Keenan will be kept busy this year (again) with Puscifer. Still, we’ve been hearing numerous reports that Tool are almost done recording new material. Maybe all that’s left to complete are vocal tracks (the webmaster who reportedly handles the band’s website did say he/she heard some new Tool music sans Maynard)? Either way, it looks like we’ll have to wait even longer for a new Tool album.
