What if Metallica’s “Moth Into Flame” was on ‘…And Justice For All?’

For as groundbreaking an album as Metallica’s fourth album, …And Justice For All is, it’s production is, well. not amazing. Flemming Rasmussen, who’d recorded Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets, made the album sound kind of tinny, with the bass mixed down almost low enough to be inaudible, blending in with a wall of guitars. Yet it’s instantly recognizable and is almost a characteristic of the soungs. It turned out to be the last album Rasumussen worked on with the band. However, YouTuber GuitarRazze liked the production technique enough to re-record “Moth Into Flame,” from the forthcoming Hardwired… To Self Destruct, in the production style of 1988’s …And Justice For All. The instrumental version sounds great, and since the drums were also programmed by him, they don’t sound so Lars-y.

He also did the same thing with the album’s first single, “Hardwired,” although the length and complexity of “Moth Into Flame” sounds a lot more like a song that might be on …Justice. Both are fun to listen to, and at this rate, we’re pretty sure he’ll take on the rest of Hardwired… To Self Destruct when it comes out on Blackened Recordings on November 18th. You can preorder it here.
