Dark Angel have officially returned with their first new music since 1991’s Time Does Not Heal. The band debuted “Extinction Level Event” on April 10 via SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal with Jose Mangin. The track serves as the lead single from their upcoming album Extinction Level Event, due later this year on Reversed Records. Guitarist Jim Durkin wrote the song a decade ago, well before his unexpected passing in 2023 from severe liver disease.
Drummer Gene Hoglan comments:
“Musically, lyrically, and vocally, I’m so stoked about this album. I’m really excited about Dark Angel right now, and everyone who’s heard the new album is losing their minds. Jim Durkin left us with this badass tune. It is so Dark Angel and I’m just so excited about it. We made it the lead-off song on the record, not as a tribute to Jim or because of sentimental reasons – like, here is the song that Jim left us – but because it’s just a totally killer song. He wrote it ten years ago, and by today’s standards it’s still ball-crushing.”
The album was recorded and mixed at Armoury Studios in Vancouver, produced and engineered by Rob Shallcross, and mixed by Mike Fraser. “Extinction Level Event” delivers fast, aggressive energy and sets a high bar for the band’s long-awaited return.
