After nearly eight years, Fuktronic has finally become a reality. The electronic album from System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian and Mindless Self Indulgence frontman Jimmy Urine hit digital download and streaming platforms on Friday (8). Order here.
Released on Tankian’s Serjical Strike Records, Fuktronic is the soundtrack to a British Gangster film concocted by the duo. The soundtrack was supposed to be released as a Record Store Day exclusive, but with the event having been moved twice, the duo decided to release the digital version first.
Said Tankian in a press release announcing the digital release of the soundtrack:
“Jimmy and I cooked up the idea one day while we were laughing about how over the top that genre of film is, with their seedy characters and curse laden dialogue. So, we decided to create our own cast of characters, write them a loose storyline full of F-Bombs and worse, then hit the studio to create this soundtrack.”
Along with the digital release of the soundtrack, four animated teaser clips, including a minute-and-a-half trailer, were uploaded to the Fuktronic YouTube channel. The visuals were created by ShadowMachine Studios (BoJack Horseman, TripTank, Robot Chicken). A discussion between Tankian and Urine about the album was also uploaded to the channel, which you can view below.
Tankian released a new solo track on April 27. “Hayastane” was written as a “celebration of the Armenian spirit” and meant to bring the people of Armenia some hope amidst the current pandemic. Tankian was also featured on “Introvert (Call Me Crazy),” a collaboration between Arminian rapper Misho and Capital Cities’ Sebu Simonian released on April 2. He released his latest solo album, Orca, in 2013, the same year he released the collaborative album, Jazz-Iz-Christ.
Urine collaborated with Marvel Comics in 2019 to compose a soundtrack to their “War Of The Realms” event and storyline. Later that year he also collaborated with Twiztid’s Madrox on a cover of Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like the Wolf.” He released his debut solo album, Euringer, in 2018.
