Dee Gallant, a native of Duncan, British Columbia, went on a morning jog with her dog Murphy. During her routine, she noticed a cougar was lurking and watching from a far.
Gallant recalled to KelownaNow:
“I looked over to the right and there it was. I couldn’t make it out at first and thought, ‘Oh, that is a strange color. That’s not a tree.'”
She can be heard on the video yelling at the cougar to “Get out of here” or “Bad kitty,” and “I’ll fight you.” Gallant retold the event to Victoria News:
”I stopped and looked at him and he didn’t stop. I looked at him and said, ‘hey, you, stop it’ and he stopped. That’s when I started filming.”
When the cougar wouldn’t move, Gallant figured that Metallica might do the trick.
“I quickly rifled through my iTunes and found Metallica ‘Don’t Tread On Me.’ As soon as it started to play, he buggered off into the bush.
I guess he didn’t want to eat anything that leaves a Metallica taste in his mouth. Through it all, I wasn’t scared”
The Canadian native also mentioned that she would love to meet frontman James Hetfield and tell him her story:
“I would love to contact them someday and tell James Hetfield that he saved my life.”
