refused2014Lamb of God aren’t the only band that can vaguely suggest something’s happening next year. Refused, who made the definitive statement of the post-hardcore/punk generation 16 years ago with The Shape of Punk to Come, might be doing something as well. Yesterday, the band posted a new picture of four of them on their Facebook page with the provocative caption “Old Friends / New War.”

It’s been known that something was brewing in the Refused camp, in that their former guitarist Jon Brännström suddenly stated that he wasn’t in the band on their Facebook page back in October. Then …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead bassist Autry Fulbright II stated that the band were working on a new album in a since-deleted Instagram post. And while there’s no official timeline, the band are fanning the flames, so to speak, of the possibility that we’ll be able to tack on a new album from Refused on things to look forward to in the new year. The band toured back in 2012, proving far more popular than they were in their heyday, which likely planted a seed with them. Here’s hoping they can follow in the footstep of fellow Swedes At the Gates and release a comeback album over a decade after the fact that’s as rewarding as their past material.
