Throughout the whole trial and conviction of As I Lay Dying/Austrian Death Machine frontman Tim Lambesis for solicitation of murder, it was pretty easy to feel bad for the remaining members of AILD. Going from being one of the most popular metalcore bands in the genre to having the brakes suddenly pulled on their career, the band justly kept quiet throughout the ordeal with the exception of a statement at the beginning of it all.
Last week, guitarist Phil Sgrosso said that a band update was coming “very soon” when launching a crowdfunding campaign to help with his brother’s cancer. That “very soon” came last night, as each member of the band save Lambesis posted snippets of music on their Instagram accounts with a vocalist that is decidedly not Lambesis. Here are the snippets:
Guitarist Nick Hipa:
guitarist Phil Sgrosso:
drummer Jordan Mancino:
and bassist Josh Gilbert
It’s been pointed out that all of the members with the exception of Gilbert are shown playing their instruments. Gilbert is shown with headphones on, and since he’s already been the clean singer in the band, it can be assumed that he might be the new vocalist of the band. The music definitely sounds more melodic than AILD. Will the band continue on with that name, or change it? And is Gilbert the new vocalist? These are all questions that will be answered in time, but it’s good to see the band moving on in some fashion.
