If it seems like it’s been about 10,000 days since the last time Tool released an album, it’s actually only been about 2,869 of them since their last album came out in 2006. According to Crave Online, that’s about to come to an end, though. The band began touring this week, and one of the perks being offered in their VIP packages is a pre-show meet and greet with the band which includes a Q&A with the band, and at last night’s Portland show, a fan asked about the progress of the band’s next album, which has been the topic of much discussion over the past few years. Guitarist Adam Jones told a fan that the album is “100% done,” and will arrive later this year. There’s no more information than that at this time, but it’s definitely encouraging to hear that not only is music written, but vocals have been recorded and it’s ready to come out. In the meantime, if you’re on the West Coast, Texas or Mexico, here’s your chance to see the band this month.
[UPDATE]: Crave’s “source” might have spoken too soon. Adam Jones posted a comment on Twitter saying “fyi, ‘the record’s done and it’s coming out tomorrow’ is what i said yesterday followed by ‘just kidding.'” So while the album still might be coming out sometime this year, it’s release date moves back from a “fuck yeah, sometime this year!” to a big old question mark once again. Thanks for nothing, internet.
