Lady Gaga takes in Lazer/Wulf at SXSW

lazerwulfUntil yesterday, instrumental thrash/jazz trio Lazer/Wulf could have qualified as one of our top five unsigned bands to watch at SXSW. However, yesterday was also the day they signed a deal with Kylesa’s Retro Futurist label. And they can already claim a high-profile fan. Friend of Metal Insider Kim Kelly was taking in the band’s show at Beerland yesterday. It being that it was at 1am,she was one of the few there (four by her account) – until a posse rolled in about halfway through the set. They started dancing and headbanging, a scene that will be no doubt repeated plenty of times throughout the week. Then a friend of Kelly’s pointed out that one of the people, “a short, skinny chick with long platinum dreads, big nose and an Iron Maiden Killers shirt,” was Lady Gaga.

Sure enough, there were three bouncers surrounding her as she rocked out, but they needn’t have bothered, as everyone in the crowd seemed nonplussed by it. By the time Kelly left to take in another show, Gaga and her posse had also moved on, but lead guitarist Bryan Aiken reported that she returned after their set to compliment them and snap a picture with him, which is preserved for posterity on their Facebook page. All in all, a pretty insane story, and the music portion of SXSW has just begun! The only thing more bizarre than all of this is that we found out about this from Kelly writing about it on MySpace.
