AC/DC’s original drummer, Colin Burgess, has passed away at the age of 77. The legendary Australian hard rock outfit confirmed the news on social media, expressing their sadness and remembering him as their first drummer and a highly respected musician. Colin joined AC/DC in 1973 and played his inaugural show with the band on New Year’s Eve. Unfortunately, he was let go in February 1974 due to an on-stage incident involving alcohol, which he later claimed was a result of drink spiking. Despite the circumstances, Colin’s contributions included playing on the original version of AC/DC’s first single, “Can I Sit Next To You Girl.” The track was later re-recorded with Phil Rudd on drums, Mark Evans on bass, and Bon Scott on vocals for their sophomore effort, 1975’s TNT. Burgess was a member of the Australian group The Master’s Apprentices from 1968-1972, which later, in 1988, was inducted into the Aria Hall of Fame for his contributions to the group. AC/DC have issued a statement, bidding farewell to Colin with heartfelt words, remembering him for his integral role in their early years. “Very sad to hear of the passing of Colin Burgess. He was our first drummer and a very respected musician. Happy memories, rock in peace Colin.”
