In some really sad news, Rush drummer Neil Peart has passed away at age 67 due to brain cancer. According to Elliott Mintz, a spokesperson for the Peart family, Peart was battling the cancer for three years. An official statement from the band appears below. The drummer apparently died on January 7th.
As one of the best drummers in rock, Peart stands alone as one of the most technical drummers ever, and as the lyricist of Rush, also as one of the most poetic songwriters in heavy music. He will definitely be missed. The band retired in 2015 after wrapping up their 40th anniversary tour. Peart had joined the band in 1974.
