A few weeks ago, Norwegian Air Shuttle launched a web campaign where they’d place the face of a deceased Norwegian personality on the tail of their airplanes. And thanks to a major push by fans online and metal blogs, none other than Mayhem co-founder/guitarist than Øystein Aarseth (aka Euronymous) was voted #1. So that means Euronymous’ beautiful mug shot will grace the tail of a Norwegian airplane, right?!

Well, to put it simply: no. However, according to The Gauntlet, it’s actually Euronymous’ family that’s preventing this from happening. Though their exacts reasoning remains unclear, the late black metal musician’s family have requested that Norwegian Air Shuttle take his name out of the running. While it’s certainly a shame that Euronymous’ face will not end up on an airplane, we have a feeling that the airline would have found some other way to exempt him from the contest despite having the most amount of votes. So unless if his family changes their mind, we’ll just have to make do with the picture above [courtesy of Metal Injection].
