CBS San Francisco reports former Mr. Bungle member Theobald “Theo” Lengyel has been found guilty of first-degree murder in a Santa Cruz County courtroom. The 55-year-old was convicted of killing his girlfriend, 61-year-old Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann, inside her Capitola, California, home. Herrmann was reported missing in December 2023, and her remains were found in Berkeley’s Tilden Regional Park in January. During the six-week trial, prosecutors presented an audio recording, allegedly from Herrmann’s phone, capturing her begging for her life as Lengyel strangled her.
Lengyel, best known for his work with Mr. Bungle, played saxophone, clarinet, and keyboards with the group for nearly a decade. He contributed to the band’s early demos and their first two major label albums before leaving in 1996. Lengyel now faces life in prison, with sentencing scheduled for next month.
