The Darkness have been out of the spotlight for a while now, which I guess is what happens after your second album flops and your singer leaves the band after developing an alcohol and cocaine problem. However, Justin Hawkins rejoined the band last year, and their first album in five years, Hot Cakes, sounds like the album they should have put out after their awesome debut Permission to Land.

You’ve already had a chance to hear “Every Inch of You” and “Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us,” but the band also do a pretty amazing cover of Radiohead’s “Street Spirit (Fade Out)” to close the album. It’s an uptempo, heavy version that’s pretty much the opposite of the original, but in a good way. It’s streaming over at Pitchfork.

Hot Cakes comes out on August 21 via Wind-Up.
