We’ve heard a handful of the new Slayer album already, via the title track, “When the Stillness Comes” and “Implode.” With its imminent release (September 11, in case you forgot), the band have unveiled a new track via Adult Swim’s singles series. And while “Implode” and “Where the Stillness Comes” were pretty average, “Cast the First Stone” ranks up there with the title track in terms of headbangability. With a slow beginning, it takes a while to kick in, and by the time Tom Araya starts barking lyrics, it gels as one of the band’s best mid-tempo songs they’ve come out with in a while. Like “When the Stillness Comes,” it seems like it could’ve gone on for another minute or two, as it just starts to reach a groove toward the end. Then again, there’s nothing wrong with leaving us wanting more, which they’ll deliver in less than two weeks.

You can download “Cast the First Stone” for free here, or stream below. Repentless will be released on Nuclear Blast on September 11 and can be preordered here.
