Refused are knocking it out of the park with Freedom so far. The band’s first album in 17 years will be out on June 30th, and so far, the band have released a pair of tracks from it. “Elektra” is the most “New Noise”-like song, so it makes sense that they led off with that. The next track, “Francafrique,” was a little more experimental. Today, BBC premiered a third track, “Dawkins Christ,” which they dubbed “The Hottest Record in the World,” and we’re inclined to agree. It’s every bit as experimental as “Francafrique,” but heavier. In fact, with it’s vaguely Egyptian-sounding scale, it sounds a bit like a Tool song. The song takes a little while to build up, but once it does, it doesn’t let up until it’s over. This might confuse a few old-school Refused fans, but if you’re among the many unfamiliar with the band from their first run, there’s plenty to love here.
Refused will be out on June 30th on Epitaph, and can be preordered here.
