Anticipation is continuing to build for the Game of Thrones mixtape. “Catch the Throne, The Mixtape, Volume II” is coming soon, and it was officially announced last week that Mastodon was on the compilation, which also includes new music by Anthrax, Killswitch Engage and Mushroomhead. Now Mastodon have released a short snippet of their track via Instagram. It’s the most melodic sounding thing they’ve done in years from the 15 seconds included. Brann Dailor is singing, there’s acoustic guitar, and some toms, but that’s about it. Might it get heavier? They’ve been known to do that, but this could be an all-acoustic track for all we know. With the mixtape coming out next month in advance of the April 12 premiere of the fifth season of Game of Thrones, we’ll know for sure soon.
