The first two tracks we’ve heard so far from High On Fire’s Luminiferous have delivered big time. Anyone familiar with the Oakland power trio’s Motorhead-meets-Black Sabbath-in-a-knife-fight sound knows what to expect by now, their seventh album seems even more confident. “The Black Pot” and “The Sunless Years” are no flukes – the rest of the album is just as furious, even though there are a few change-ups on it. “The Cave” is slow and melodic, but still heavy as hell, with a phased effect across Pike’s vocals. In fact, after listening to this a few times, it could be the band’s best album in years. The album is streaming now on NPR, and it’s certainly going to get you out of whatever kind of case of the Mondays you’re having now.
Luminiferous will be released on eOne on June 16th. You can preorder it here.
