16) Katatonia, Sky Void Of Stars (Napalm)
Katatonia are just one of those bands that will release great work regardless of harsh to soft. While this one felt soft and soothing, it was executed with heavy emotion.
Key Track: “No Beacon to Illuminate Our Fall”
15) Imperium Dekadenz, Into Sorrow Evermore (Napalm)
German black metal outfit Imperium Dekadenz returned with their first album in four years. While 2019’s When We Are Forgotten will remain one incredible album that will be difficult to beat, Into Sorrow Evermore, stands strong on its own. Although it took a few extra listens to grasp the intensity, once it hits you, you will listen to the record on repeat.
Key Track: “Truth Under Stars”
14) Royal Thunder, Rebuilding The Mountain (Spinefarm)
Royal Thunder resurfaced as to what appeared to be out of nowhere. Once again, their album will break your heart and bring tears to your eyes while Mlny Parsonz still captivates a modern-day Janis Joplin. One strong, emotional, sometimes bluesy, vocalist with nothing but power and stamina behind each note and feeling the pain behind the lyrics.
Key Track: “Twice”
13) Keep Of Kalessin, Katharsis (Back On Black)
I’m not sure how much press was received for Keep Of Kalessin’s new album, Katharsis, but it’s one blistering record filled with blast beats and darkened emotion.
Key Track: “The Obsidian Expanse”
12) Blackbraid, Blackbraid II (Self)
Blackbraid executes a potent blend of softness and aggressive tenacity. There’s a significant rise of black metal music based in the States, and Blackbraid should be kept on your radar.
Key Track: “A Song of Death on Winds of Dawn”
