The technically gifted Nils Fjellström, or “Dominator,” currently performs with Odium, Horde of Hel, and others. In the past, he impressed listeners with his drumming excellence in Nordjevel, Dark Funeral, The Wretched End, and so forth.

13) Ludwig Witt

No, Ludwig Witt is not exactly what one would typically call a black metal drummer. He currently plays with Spiritual Beggars and Grand Magus. However, because he comes from a different background, he was the perfect choice for Shining. With Shining, the master performed on unsurpassed classics — V: Halmstad (Niklas angående Niklas) (2007), the EP Lots of Girls Gonna Get Hurt (2012), and Redefining Darkness (2012).

12) Uruz

Uruz continues to delight us with his work in Vulture Lord. As such, Uruz puts posers and wimps in their place through his commitment to authentic Black Deathrashing Metal. We greatly admire his achievements with Urgehal, Shining, Endezzma, Den Saakaldte, So Much for Nothing, etc.

11) Gionata Potenti

Throughout his career, the Italian vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Gionata Potenti — also known as “Omega,” “Omega A.D.,” “Thorns,” and “G.” — has acted as the drummer for a seemingly endless list of great bands. We are especially fond of his work with Darvaza — a duo in which he handles all instruments and the legendary Wraath of Mare and ex-Celestial Bloodshed provides vocals. We also highly recommend Omega’s past work with Fides Inversa. His time in that outfit overlapped with Wraath’s.

10) Nicholas Barker

The famed Nicholas Barker is not strictly a black metal drummer. He has performed with various types of esteemed outfits: Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Old Man’s Child, Shining, Brujeria, Lock Up, etc. We wish him the best as he bravely battles health issues and suggest visiting his GoFundMe here.
