THE RECORD PARLOUR
6408 Selma Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028
Overall a good atmosphere. Lots of Jazz, Rock, Blues, Rap, Dance Disco, etc. Friendly owners. It was better in 2016 when I first visited. Back then they had a Metal section, and had some heavy hitters on the wall. Now, the Metal is all “mixed in with the Rock” – which is a theme I noticed in more than one store. That wasn’t the case previously, when there were at least 4 dedicated Metal bins. This could mean they don’t get enough Metal coming in to justify a section, or people are snagging it as soon as it gets
there, because all of their Metal LP dividers were empty. They do have plentiful Jazz, R&B, Rock, and Blues sections and and awesome 12 inch singles selection. And they actually have a DJ scratch tools/breaks/beats section which I NEVER see anywhere, and I love that. I pulled a few pieces from that section. The rarest and only piece of Metal they had on their wall was a first press Motörhead “Iron Fist” – If you need that record, you’re obviously a new collector. Slightly annoying music, but it was at a low-level so I was able to tolerate it. I will be back, the Record Parlour is always worth a stop-in for a good dig.
