Paws, Pets & Metal is Metal Insider’s newest column on bands with pets, discovering who watches them on the road, and more. Get to know more about these metal furbabies. We caught up with Tanis Pellegrini, the vocalist of Lives Lost, Hershey, PA’s new post-hardcore outfit, as he discussed his two dogs, each with their own distinct music preferences.

Tell us more about your pet(s) and their names?

I have two dogs, Otis (Border Collie/Lab Mix) and Opal (Pitbull/Aussie mix) and they are absolutely the best dogs. Otis’s favorite activities are playing catch (not fetch, he wants to catch it), hide and seek, tug of war, and eat literally anything he can get his cute little teeth on. Opal’s favorite activities are running around at lightning speeds, playing tug, going for walks, and when she’s not being the most energetic dog you’ll ever meet, she loves snuggling on the couch with us.

Have you ever taken your pet on tour?

Not yet, but that’s the dream for me, for Lives Lost to be big enough to be able to afford a tour bus and be able to have my dogs and my wife along with the band and all our stuff.

Who looks after your pet while on the road?

My wife or if she happens to be with, my brother and my parents.

What’s your pet’s favorite song or album?

Opal loves Lo-Fi Ohio is for Loves by Less Gravity and Hawthorne Heights, and Otis doesn’t care as long as I’m singing it to him (he loves me singing/songwriting)

How did you introduce your pet to metal?

When Otis was a puppy, I was writing a lot of heavier stuff for my metalcore band and he really loved me wailing on guitar (at a safe volume for his ears of course). Opal actually does not like metal at all, she is only into chill stuff, so we keep that in mind.

What animal charity means most to you?

Philly Bully Team does awesome work, but really any charity benefiting these sweet, misunderstood babies!
