Paws, Pets & Metal is Metal Insider’s newest column on bands with pets, discovering who watches them on the road, and more. Get to know more about these metal furbabies. We caught up with Paradox Rift drummer Eric Burrington as he discusses his pets’ pawsitive reaction to the group’s song “Dismembered by Dogs.”

Tell us more about your pet(s) and their names?

I have an 8yr old female Belgian Malinois named Indica. She is a powerful/ relentless force of energy at all times haha. She runs next to the bicycle daily for a few miles. Otherwise, she’s prone to misbehave and bark at you all day until she gets her exercise lol. Also, a 10yr old long-haired tabby cat named Mowzer (aka Mew). He has long gray fur with black stripes and the Super Mario “M” marking on his head. He is the opposite of his puppy sister as he likes to chill and sleep most of the time.

Have you ever taken your pet on tour?

Haha no… much to my pets dismay I’m sure.

Who looks after your pet while on the road?

My wife Nicole handles the matters of the family while the band is on the road. Big thanks to her as it would be difficult to find someone reliable.

What’s your pet’s favorite song or album?

Indica’s favorite song is “Dismembered by Dogs” on the new Paradox Rift album. The title is key lol and she always looks curious when the song starts and the intro sample with the dogs gets louder.

How did you introduce your pet to metal?

Funny but true story actually… everytime I sit behind the drumset my dog Indy will follow me and lay down either in front or behind the drums while I play. She acts like it doesn’t phase her at all lol but I try to play softly when she’s in the room. She’s been around metal music her whole life. Since the day I picked her up and had metal playing in the car.

What animal charity means most to you?

Wags for Warriors is a charity I’ve always appreciated. Their dedication to their cause is nothing but admirable in my opinion.
