Paws, Pets & Metal is Metal Insider’s newest column on bands with pets, discovering who watches them on the road, and more. Get to know more about these metal furbabies. We caught up with Gnarwhal guitarist Benji discussing how his two Aussie Labradoodles enjoy hanging out in the studio.

Tell us more about your pet(s) and their names?

My wife and I have two Australian Labradoodles. They are basically human children to us. Siggy (girl) and Jasper (boy). Siggy is a sassy bitch and Jasper is a teddy bear.

Have you ever taken your pet on tour?

I wish but I wouldn’t be allowed to take them away from my wife haha.

Who looks after your pet while on the road?

If my wife is with me, we have a lot of friends and family who love our dogs so it’s not hard to find someone to stay with them.

What’s your pet’s favorite song or album?

Our boy Jasper is a really good singer. He can howl in the tune of any song featuring a harmonica. His current playlist includes: Armonica (Ennio Morricone), Love Me Do (The Beatles), Whammer Jammer (J. Geils Band), and School (Supertramp)

How did you introduce your pet to metal?

I have a home studio so the dogs are always hanging out with me when I’m writing and playing guitar. They seem to love it.

What animal charity means most to you?

Our local SPCA is always in need of support and they do a lot of work in our community.
