Paws, Pets & Metal is Metal Insider’s ongoing column on bands with pets, discovering who watches them on the road, and more. Get to know more about these metal furbabies. We caught up with Forsaken Rite as their pets battle between calming cat music and Satyricon playlists.
Tell us more about your pet(s) and their names?
Adaria’s pet (cat) is called Portia, she is queen of the house. She does not like other animals and will make it blatantly known that they are not welcome.
She is an only kitty and takes full advantage of it.
Ulfbjorn’s Pets (3 Dogs) miniature dachshund Maggie (the Potato)
Husky mix Luna (the golden child) and Staffshire terrier Marceline (the Terror)
All wonderful in their own ways and truly make my house a home.
Ursa has 3 cats: Achusi, Willow, and Atreyu. Achusi is the oldest, she rules the house. Willow is the scaredy cat, EVERYTHING startles her, however she’s also starting to turn into an old grumpy lady. Atreyu is the youngest, he is known as The Menace.
Peregyr has 2 dogs. He brought Kida (the white and black lint-ball) and Milo (big brown ears) home during the pandemic, making them the perfect companions for a homebound metalhead.
Emrys has a cat named Fancy Fred. We thought it was a boy when we got it, Only to learn that we had one of the few rare female orange cats! The name stuck because Fred’s super fancy.
Heathcliff (Ducktoller) is the oldest of the two dogs. The guy is a big mama’s boy and HATES being outside for more than he needs to be.
Zero (Ducktoller) is the younger dog and that dude’s a maniac. His two speeds are “fast” and “faster.”
Have you ever taken your pet on tour?
Unfortunately none of us has been able to take our pets on tour. Cats and travel don’t go well together, and there is so much going on that we wouldn’t be able to give them the attention they need.
Who looks after your pet while on the road?
Each of us have family members come in every day to make sure our pets are taken care of and have enough food/water/cuddles.
What’s your pet’s favorite song or album?
Ulfbjorn: Luna always dances to “September by Earth, Wind & Fire.Marcy dances to “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan aka “Pink Puppy Club”. Maggie is the angry potato and loves anything by “Beast in Black”.
Ursa: Willow particularly loves “calming cat music” which tends to include bird sounds… they do the opposite of calming her.
Peregyr: Kida is the dark and brooding type, liable to spin some classic satanic, black and doom – Satyricon and the like. Milo is a fun loving good vibes boy, listening to the classics of power metal (think Rhapsody of Fire).
Emrys: I force them to listen to Cattle Decapitation a lot, So probably “Homovore”
How did you introduce your pet to metal?
Ulfbjorn: Immediately on the drive home from first picking them up. Turn on the playlist and let the metal fly!
Ursa: Achusi loves to be part of practice time! She will knock on the door and meow until I let her in the room, then she will proceed to headbutt me through my entire practice.
Adaria: Portia will sit at the door to the practice room and yell until she is let in. She will then find a place to get comfortable and watch me drum (Electric Kit).
Peregyr: Constant exposure to guitar riffage and calming blast beats on drives to the dog park.
Emrys: The same way I do to everyone – Play it until they like it, or they leave!
