GWAR fans are a little sick of the standard Super Bowl half-time show, which this year will feature yet another Top 40 act, Bruno Mars. In response, fan Jeff Cantrell of Kentucky has started a petition to have the all-American/Antarctican band added to the bill celebrating America’s favorite sport. He already has more than 17,000 signatures, surpassing his goal of 15,000.
But it’s not just about being a fan of GWAR’s music. It’s also about the band and the sport going hand in hand. Front man Dave Brockie writes a football column for Meta l Sucks called “Necessary Roughness” and The Dan Patrick Show proudly houses an Oderus mask. Dan Patrick has already talked about Cantrell’s campaign on his show.
While we are not sure what the NFL’s response will be to this petition, if you would like to support the cause, sign the petition here. Check out video support for the cause below. But since it may be a bit of a wait on whether or not GWAR could provide the soundtrack for next year’s final NFL football contest, we suggest checking out the band’s new album Battle Maximus that was released today on Metal Blade Records as you navigate your fantasy football leagues this week and get together for Sunday funday to battle it out.
