Drummer Vinnie Paul has made it clear numerous times that Pantera would never reunite without his brother/guitarist Dimebag Darrell. However, during a radio interview back in March, Paul did admit that he’d want Zakk Wylde to fill in if the unlikely reunion was to ever happen. Since the drummer’s comments created quite a buzz, Phoenix, AZ’s 98 KUPD was brave enough to ask singer Philip Anselmo for his take on such a reunion.
However, fans shouldn’t hold their breath. You can listen to the singer’s response in the video above [around the 8:25 mark]. However, when asked whether a Pantera reunion with Zakk Wylde filling in would ever happen, said the following:
“Wishful thinking. And I hate to say that, too. You know, really… I would… Put it this way: my door is always open. I love those guys, I love… Put it this way: I miss that Pantera feel, the feeling of walking out on that stage and performing those songs and having that massive audience just turn into this swirling whirlpool of bodies. That is something that is missable, for sure. Believe me, man, if that were a truth, I would tell you, but man, the truth of it all is it’s pretty much wishful thinking at this point.”
He also goes on to discuss how, in his opinion, the media played a large role in destroying his relationship with Paul and Darrell (before his death). Despite this, Anselmo says that his door is always “wide open” to the drummer. It may still be a while till Paul makes amends with him. But then again, if Anselmo and Rita Haney (Dimebag’s longtime girlfriend) can reconnect, maybe it’s not impossible for the two to become friends again.
While the first part of 98 KUPD’s interview with Anselmo can be heard in the video above, the second part of the interview can be heard after the jump.
