So even a casual Cradle of Filth fan probably knows their most popular t-shirt design for what it says on the back, namely the slogan “Jesus is a c**t.” The 18 year-old design has been pissing off authority figures for years now, mainly because it’s an offensive shirt. Regardless, a woman at a museum exhibition was so taken aback by it that she tried to deface it.
There are a few things that are bizarre about the story. First of all, it took place in the too-good-to-be-true town named Christchurch, New Zealand. Yes, that’s right, a shirt that features a nun touching herself on the front of it and the slogan on the back was on display in Christchurch. Secondly, the shirt is officially banned in New Zealand. And lastly, the shirt was on display in a museum. The shirt was part of an exhibition at the Canterbury Museum called “T-shirts Unfolding.”
The woman attempted to deface the exhibition by spray painting over the shirt in question. She only damaged the barrier, and no damage was done to the exhibit itself, Radio New Zealand reports. Cradle of Filth haven’t commented yet. Last year, it was announced that they’d signed to Nuclear Blast and are working on their 11th album.
