ideclarewarA few months ago, we wrote about a t-shirt design from I Declare War that we found pretty offensive. Since then, the Seattle deathcore band have seen the error of their ways, and decided to never again release any shirts designed that might be to generate controversy. Nah, that’s totally not the truth at all. Instead, they’ve used an image of comedian and actor Chris Farley, taken after he died of a cocaine and morphine overdose 17 years ago. The back of the shirt states “Even the greats die alone.”

Is 17 years too soon? Apparently so. The band is hyping their “OD Chris Farley shirt” on their Facebook page. So far, the reaction is mixed at best. Many people are offended by the shirt. One commenter that said “I just lost all respect for this band” has 57 likes on his comment. Another says “I’m all for wearing offensive merch, but man. You guus just have lame and offensive merch, in all the wrong ways.” It’s hard to imagine anyone wearing the shirt out, as it’s absolutely offensive. There are plenty of drawings of dead people on metal shirts, but an actual photo, especially someone as well-known and beloved as Farley was, is in bad taste. Selling it as their “OD Chris Farley” shirt even more so. If you’re still interested in picking up a shirt that will get you kicked out of comedy clubs and beaten up in Chicago or at 30 Rock, you can do that here.
