2. Altar of Plagues – Teethed Glory And Injury (Profound Lore)
Similar to what Deafheaven are doing with shoegaze and black metal, Altar of plagues blend black metal with elements of noise and electronics creating an immense atmosphere that is both expansive and claustrophobic. This weird mash up almost gives the album an industrial vibe at times, something that does not seem deliberate. That is what makes TGAI so fucking cool. It’s not intentional, rather a by-product of the electronic elements.
Unfortunately, Altar of Plagues announced their breakup shortly after this album was released. Mainman James Kelly said he will continue to expand on the sounds explored on TGAI with his solo project WIFE, so that is something to look forward to in the new year.
