Metal Insider’s Top 5 is a column where we count down the top five of…well basically anything.
This coming Sunday, the 85th annual Oscars award show will air live on TV. Typically, movies’ biggest night of the year makes the Grammys look like Ozzfest. However, with the Oscars right around the corner, we got to thinking of a few of our favorite film soundtracks featuring some great metal songs. Thus, we decided to put together a list of the top 5 most metal/heaviest movie soundtracks.
Before we go into the list, let’s discuss what didn’t make it onto the list and why it didn’t. Despite its title, we didn’t include the soundtrack to the 80’s cult-classic fantasy animation Heavy Metal. It may deserve an honorary mention for featuring Black Sabbath’s “The Mob Rules” and Sammy Hagar’s “Heavy Metal” (which was written by Judas Priest members Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton and KK Downing), but loses metal cred thanks in part to Devo, Journey and Donald Fagen. You may also notice that there isn’t a single horror film soundtrack on this list. Well, metal and horror films go so well together, that we figured we’d save that for its own list.
So now that that’s out of the way, click on the page numbers below to see which soundtracks made it onto this week’s top 5.
